Hell Comes To Your House (not to be confused with the deathrock compilation of the same name) was a compilation of heavy metal tracks from multiple notable bands (e.g. Metallica, Anthrax, Manowar, etc.), alongside a few others like Earthshaker, Loudness and Helstar. The album was released on vinyl and cassette in 1984 in the UK and later Poland through Tonpress Records.
I recently got the album on vinyl, and gave it a listen through. A great selection of artists, and introduced me to the likes of Loudness and Tsunami, which they also chose great songs from (Esper and Fire Water).
Ratings
- Manowar - Blood of My Enemies (Hail to England, 1984); 9/10 - A triumphant sounding song with great riffs and vocals, and also amazing vocals to boot, with a great solo alongside it all.
- Exciter - Violence and Force (Violence and Force, 1984); 8/10 - Pure, fuckin' headbanging speed. What else can I say.
- Anthrax - Deathrider (Fistful of Metal, 1984); 10/10 - Amazing start to Anthrax's career, and possibly one of the best metal opening tracks ever. While Joey Belladonna is an amazing vocalist too, Neil Turbin is close competition.
- Earthshaker - Wall (Earthshaker, 1983); 8/10 - Great song from a great Japanese band, even if I can't understand what the hell they're saying.
- Hellion - Break the Spell (Hellion, 1983); 7/10 - Pretty good song with great vocals.
- Loudness - Esper (Disillusion, 1984); 9/10 - Another great Japanese metal band, this time with English lyrics.
- Metallica - Creeping Death (Ride the Lightning, 1984); 10/10 - A great song from one of the biggest metal bands of all time from their second best album.
- Helstar - Burning Star (Burning Star, 1984); 8/10 - Underrated as fuck song. Remember, all hail burning star.
- The Rods - Hurricane (Live, 1983); 7/10 - Great live recording of a great song. Fun fact: The drummer of this band also produced Violence and Force and Fistful of Metal.
- Tsunami - Fire Water (Tsunami, 1983); 8/10 - Amazing song from an album from MFN's early days.
- Earthshaker - Young Girls (Fugtive, 1984); 10/10 - Probably my favourite song from Earthshaker yet.
- Alaska - The Sorcerer (Heart of the Storm, 1984); 7/10 - Not exactly metal, but a nice melodic rock song to cool off from all the heavy stuff at the end. Can also help having a quieter track to end off the album to prevent inner groove distortion.
Final verdict?
8/10: A great track selection from the first 2 years of Music for Nations.
